Returning for a headline set at WHP2010 is one of the true legends in UK dance history, Pete Tong. Known to countless dance music fans the world over for his Essential Mix and Essential Selection shows on Radio 1, he has been at the pinnacle of the scene for over two decades. Famed for his long running residency at Pacha and later his own night Wonderland at Eden in Ibiza, his ability to discover and break a new tune is second to none in the industry. By far and away the most successful and popular radio DJ in the dance.

  • Born in Kent, Pete Tong began DJing at the age of 15. Alongside a group of friends he organised big Soul weekenders around the country. After leaving school he set up his first club in London called Family Function, booking acts and DJs as well as playing his own sets comprising mainly of jazz, funk and soul. Coming across the blossoming house sound coming from America in 1986 whilst working for London records, he compiled the first ever British house compilation The House Sound of Chicago.

    He first appeared on Radio 1 as a guest in 1981, but landed his own show a decade later, with his Essential Selection broadcasting on Friday nights following a highly successful stint at London’s Capital radio and the launch of his own label FFRR. He quickly developed a reputation for breaking the biggest and best new tunes before anyone else, attracting listeners from around the world. Running until 2006, the Essential Selection regularly drew in listening figures in the millions, by far and away the station’s most popular show. He now presents the Essential Mix, which recently celebrated it’s 500th mix, a show dedicated to providing the world’s top DJs with a platform to create a two hour uninterrupted mix. He was instrumental in the reshaping and modernization of Radio 1, paving the way for such DJs as Judge Jules, Carl Cox and Fabio and Grooverider. As a DJ he has graced the decks of the best clubs and festivals worldwide, notably his residencies at Pacha and Eden in Ibiza. He has also assembled the music for film soundtracks such as The Beach, Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People.

  • Born in Suriname but moving to the Netherlands in the 90s, Dutch star Chuckie has established himself as one of the biggest names in house music, remixing and collaborating with such international acts as Bob Sinclair, Sidney Samson and David Guetta, who after hearing one of his sets personally invited him to play at his residency at Pacha in Ibiza. Known for his unique combination of mixing upfront house with hip hop and other genres, he counts huge names such as P Diddy and the Black Eyed Peas amongst his many admirers. His smash hit Let the Bass Kick In Miami Girl was followed by an Essential mix on Radio 1 this year, featuring tracks by the likes of Sébastien Léger, Mowgli and Noob as well as many of his own trademark productions and remixes. His Dirty Dutch events have become some of the biggest in Europe, drawing names such as Afrojack, Hardwell and Steve Aoki, as well as a successful label of the same name.

  • In a very short space of time Stefano Miele has become known as one of the top producers in house and techno today under his Riva Starr guise, recording for Jesse Rose’s Frontroom records as well as Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried and Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird imprint amongst others. His trademark hard, techy sound has won accolades from the likes of Annie Mac, Ricardo Villalobos and Switch, and made him a highly sought after remixer, reworking tracks for the likes of Crookers, The Gossip and Estelle. Debut album If Life Gives You Lemons Make Lemonade released this year on Made To Play showed his versatility in the studio, including an offbeat collaboration with infamous duo Noze I Was Drunk and the gypsy influenced Bulgarian Girls.

  • Cassette Jam are a pair of DJs and producers from Leeds, Rory Lyons and Will Graney. Inspired by the crossover fusion of dance, indie and rock, their blistering sets (sometimes using up to four pairs of decks) have seen them grace clubs such as Wax:On and Chibuku Shake Shake as well as a residency at Ibiza Rocks and a NYE set at the Warehouse Project. Their own remixes have been played by the likes of Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Annie Nightingale and Xfm’s Eddy Temple-Morris, and they have recently completed their debut album, produced by the Filthy Dukes and mixed by German legend Conny Plank using the same hallowed mixing desk as Kraftwerk.

  • Of Ukrainian descent, growing up in Yorkshire but now residing in Manchester, Krysko has been DJing for over 17 years and is rightly known as one of the best DJs in the whole city. A handpicked resident for Sankeys and Tribal Gathering for many years, the list of legendary names he has played with goes on and on; Derrick Carter, Francois K, Todd Terry, Underground Resistance and countless more. Over the last few years he has been a stalwart resident of the Warehouse Project, playing alongside the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Hot Chip and others, as well as playing on the WHP essential mix on Radio 1.
