Part 2 of the WHP 2010 launch sees three of the biggest names in house music take to the stage, backed up by some of Manchester’s best up and coming DJs. Headlining on the night is Sweden’s Eric Prydz, known for his huge anthems Pjanoo and Call On Me as well as his highly rated underground productions under the Pryda and Cirez D aliases. Representing the UK are Camberwell’s finest, the unstoppable Basement Jaxx. Long before their chart hits and critically acclaimed albums they were known as one of the best DJ duos around, their raw and uncompromising sets the stuff of legend. Rounding off the trio is one of Chicago’s favourite sons whose name says it all; Felix Da Housecat. His mixes for Bugged Out!, Global Underground and even Playboy magazine all demonstrate why he is regarded as one of the finest house DJs on the planet.

WHP resident and local favourite Greg Lord returns once again, backed up by Tom Craven, resident of the infamous nomadic BacktoFront parties  and the ever popular Drop the Mustard.

  • Stockholm’s Eric Prydz smashed his way onto the scene in 2004 with his massive anthem “Call On Me”, a UK number one for five consecutive weeks that sold over a million copies worldwide. Since then he has successfully straddled both the charts and the underground credibility with a prolific number of releases on various labels. His Grammy nominated reworking of Pink Floyd entitled “Proper Education” and the anthemic “Pjanoo” were massive hits, both reaching number 2 in the charts. His Pryda alias however, focuses on a deeper, less commercial sound, with standout track Genesis becoming a benchmark of the epic yet understated electronic house sound pioneered by the likes of Deadmau5 and Chris Lake.

  • Although the duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe are primarily known for their numerous hit singles, albums and collaborations with the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Robyn, Peaches and many others, they won their reputation back in the late 90’s as two of the best house DJs in London. Their sets were famed for their raw, jacking sound, consisting mainly of their own off-the-cuff bootlegs and bumpy chicago house.  Seen by many as the UK’s equivalent to their American counterparts such as DJ Sneak, Armand Van Helden or Roger Sanchez, their two Essential mixes for Radio 1 showed off their talent for splicing together house, samba, techno, hip hop and many other disparate genres into one unified sound.  Having opened the WHP programme two years ago, they return to launch WHP 2010 with a rare and highly anticpated set.  
     
• Felix Da Housecat

  • Releasing his first single when he was just 15 in 1987, Felix Da Housecat is undeniably one of the kings of the second wave of Chicago House. His seminal Radikal Fear Records put out numerous classics throughout the 90’s, many by himself under his various guises such as Thee Madkatt Courtship, Aphrohead and Thee Jamie Starr Principle. His hugely influential 2001 album Kittenz and Thee Glitz both anticipated and encapsulated the electroclash sound that came to prominence at the start of the decade. Singles Control Freaq, Silver Screen Shower Scene and Madame Hollywood, the latter two both collaborations with vocalist Miss Kittin, were all huge dancefloor hits on the blossoming electro house scene, supported strongly by the likes of Erol, Tiga and 2manyDJs. He has remixed some of the biggest acts in the world, such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue and P Diddy, and continues to headline events across the globe.

  • WHP resident Greg has also previously held residencies at Sankeys and the former Paradise Factory, and over the last decade has played alongside artists as diverse as Dave Clarke, Francois K, Jeff Mills, Basement Jaxx, Carl Craig, Giles Peterson, Steve Lawler and Jamie Jones amongst many others . His residencies have enabled him to master a wide range of styles, ranging from souful and jazzy deep house all the way to uncompromising techno. Recently Greg has played high profile gigs outside of Manchester at the likes of London’s Matter and a set at V Festival. 
     
• Tom Craven

  • Creator and resident of the now infamous BacktoFront parties, Tom and his cohorts have brought their debauched house and techno parties to many unique locations around Manchester, hosting nights in disused buildings, secret basement locations and even a skate shop. Tom also runs the Basic parties which have ventured as far afield as London and Berlin, as well as working for the Rebel Agency with acts such as Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus and Seth Troxler.
     
• Drop The Mustard

  • In under two years Drop The Mustard have established themselves as one of the most popular nights in Manchester, regularly packing out all three floors of Soundcontrol. With a diverse policy of house, upfront electro and ear bleeding techno, they have previously hosted guests such as Mowgli, Jamie Jones, Alex Metric, Damian Lazarus, Andy George, Jaymo and many others, and their residents Oli Hackett and the Sax Offender have become known as two of the best up and coming DJs in the city.
