One of the best drum and bass labels in the world for over 15 years, Hospital records’ Hospitality events have become known for some of the heaviest and most diverse line ups of talent from various scenes, so it is no surprise that they have brought together such a fantastic group of artists for their takeover of WHP 2010. The label is known for its’ groundbreaking liquid funk releases, putting out drum and bass that takes influences from house, soul, funk and jazz.

Star of the label High Contrast will be headlining, joined by Brazilian star Marky and Reprazent’s Dynamite MC. Label boss London Elektricity will be dropping a typically diverse and entertaining set, as will label mainstay Danny Byrd. Drum and bass pioneers dBridge and Instra:mental will be showcasing their groundbreaking style of hybrid music, joined by dubstep legend Loefah of Digital Mystikz fame, alongside Ramadanman, Addison Groove and three of Manchester’s top up and coming DJs, Indigo, Synkro and Rich Reason.

  • Welsh producer Lincoln Barrett, better known as High Contrast, has become known as one of the foremost, most influential and original drum and bass talents in the world, admired for his varied style which takes in elements of soul, house, funk and even jazz, completely pioneering the sound which Fabio famously coined as “liquid funk”.  His list of huge remixes is impressive, with songs by acts such as Missy Elliot, The Streets, Adele and Erik Prydz all receiving his unique treatment, his most famous remix perhaps being his stunning re-interpretation of The Future Sound of London’s classic Papua New Guinea.

    He has released three highly praised studio albums and a compilation on Hospital, as well as numerous successful 12” singles such as If We Ever and Racing Green, having signed to the label as early as 2001. Also known as one of the top DJs on the scene, he has recorded two Essential Mixes for Pete Tong show, the second being selected as mix of the year by Pete Tong. He is a regular at Fabric, compiling the mix CD Fabriclive 25 for the London club. He travels the world taking his unique style to many celebrated clubs and festivals, including many Hospitality events.

  • Brazil’s top drum and bass DJ will be perfoming with Reprazent’s legendary mic man, the Dynamite MC, which promises to be a hugely entertaining set from these two veterans. Along with his compatriots DJ Patife, XRS Land and Drumagick, he is at the forefront of the colourful Brazilian scene, becoming famous internationally through his sets and releases. Discovered by V Recording’s Bryan Gee back in 1998, he shot to the fame in the UK as a resident at Movement and The End, as well as a regular show on Radio 1. He has compiled numerous mix CDs showcasing his fluid and uplifting style for the likes of Movement, BBE, Mixmag and DJ Magazine, and regularly tours the world playing established drum and bass events. Dynamite MC first came to prominence as the main MC in Roni Size’s Reprazent, vocalling tracks such as Dirty Beats, but he has since built a reputation as one of the scene’s best club MCs, hosting the biggest raves up and down the country. 
     
• Goldie

  • One of the most charismatic and affable characters in the world of Drum and Bass, a true UK icon who has enjoyed an illustrious and often bizarre career, Goldie is known to all fans of the genre. Born to Jamaican and Scottish parents, he grew up as a breakdancer in the 80s, becoming a renowned Graffiti artist in his hometown of Wolverhampton. He moved to the US setting up a business selling gold teeth grills, possessing several gold teeth himself, earning himself his nickname. He began producing drum and bass as early as 1992 after being introduced to 4hero, sometimes working under the alias Rufige Cru. He set up the legendary and influential Metalheadz label in 1994,  releasing tracks by Photek, Dillinja, Adam F and Grooverider amongst others. His first album Timeless, including the 29 minute opus Inner City Life, was a top ten UK album, and his follow up Mother featured guest spots from David Bowie, Noel Gallagher and KRS One. He has spent the last fifteen or so years as one of the most respected drum and bass DJs in the world, touring the world constantly and regularly headlining events such as Movement, Hospitality and Metropolis. He is also a keen actor, appearing in films such as Guy Ritchie’s Snatch and the James Bond film The World is Not Enough, and has received much media attention for his romantic links with the likes of Björk and Naomi Campbell.

  • Hospital co-founder Tony Colman’s musical project London Elektricity has been at the pinnacle of the scene for over a decade. Initially a duo with fellow Hospital boss Chris Goss, he has released six studio albums for the label, later expanding the project into a highly respected live act with full backing band, completing many successful tours across the UK and Europe, recording several live sessions at the legendary Maida Vale BBC studios and releasing two live DVDs, Live at the Jazz Cafe and Live at the Scala, in the process. He is known for his distinctive self-described “fast soul” style, combining pitched up breaks, live instrumentation and jazz, soul and house influences.  He also hosts the hugely popular Hospital Records Podcast, which receives tens of thousands of downloads and has won several awards. A new London Elektricity album is expected on Hospital next year.
     
• Danny Byrd

  • Bath’s Danny Byrd is one of the stalwarts of Hospital, recording on the label for over ten years. He has  remixed tracks for labelmates such as High Contrast’s Music is Everything and London Elektricity’s Wishing Well with fantastic results, and he released a mix CD on the label earlier this year. His remix of Liquid Harmony’s old school classic Sweet Harmony last year was a huge success, even entering the UK singles chart. He tours nonstop across the globe, playing cities such as Los Angeles, Paris, Romania and Vienna, known for his free flowing party style.

    Autonomic is a collective formed by dBridge and Instra:mental, simultaneously a club night and label for the new sound they are pioneering. Formerly of drum and bass heavyweights Bad Company, responsible for a slew of classics such as The Nine, Planet Dust and Bullet Time, he has since formed a fruitful partnership with Instra:mental, working together on their first single Blush Response, which caused a stir in the scene due to its originality. Moving away from the traditional sounds and structures of drum and bass into new territories informed by dubstep, electronica and even minimal techno, completely repositioning the genre. Their Fabriclive 50 mix was a groundbreaking showcase of the new sound they were part of pioneering, featuring artists such as Scuba, Skream, Actress and Alix Perez alongside many of their own solo tracks and collaborations.  
    

     

     
• Loefah

  • One of the most experienced and key figures on the dubstep scene, Norwood’s Loefah is one of the original members of Mala and Coki’s Digital Mystikz family, and runs the respected Swamp 81 label, releasing acts such as Skream, The Bug, Kryptic Minds, Ramadanman and his own weighty, bass driven productions. Growing up listening to the dark drum and bass coming out on labels such as Metalheadz, he is known for his sparse, sinister and heavy style, demonstrated perfectly on tracks such as Goat Stare and Ruffage, as well as his various co productions with Mala and Coki for DMZ. He has also released on labels such as Planet Mu, Tempa, and Big Apple Records, and remains one of the most respected and sought after DJs on the scene today.
     
• Ramadanman

  • Co-founder of Hessle Audio along with Ben UFO and Pangaea, London’s David Kennedy (who also records under the name Pearson Sound) has widely become known as one of the most original and unique artists in dubstep today. He has released tracks on labels as diverse as Tempa, Soul Jazz and Hemlock, giving a clue as to the breadth of his sound, dubstep informed by Detroit techno, UK Funky, electronica and deep house. Starting to make music at the age of 15, he has won fans such as Skream, Kode9, Mary Ann Hobbs and Rob Da Bank for his varied productions, with a touring schedule that takes in most of Europe and the UK this year alone.
     
• Addison Groove [ Live ]

  • Coming to peoples’ attention with his massive Footcrab track this year on Loefah’s Swamp 81 label, Addison Groove has been named by many as a name to watch, with big things expected for him in 2011. So far his only release, the track is a dynamic mix of looped hip hop, snatches of female vocals, a tribal beat that references broken beat and UK garage, and dubbed out sonic textures. Receiving plays from house and dubstep DJs alike. He also works under the alias Headhunter, releasing tracks on labels such as Tempa and Planet Mu and collaborated with Modeselektor. 
     
• Synkro & Indigo

  • Two of Manchester’s most exciting and youngest producers, Synkro and Indigo have been making waves with their solo and collaborative productions that push the boundaries and rigid structures of drum and bass and dubstep, converging into new territories. Their releases, on Indigo’s Mindset label amongst others, are receiving support from the DJs as varied as dBridge, Instra:mental, TRG, Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Martyn, Ben UFO, Reso and Rusko to name but a few. Both are regulars at Manchester’s Hit & Run, their highly original sets fusing the best in drum and bass and dubstep.
     
• Rich Reason

  • One of Manchester’s best and most loved DJs, Rich Reason is known as the co-founder and main resident of Hit & Run, a night that has grown from humble beginnings into a huge established name bringing in the best names from drum and bass, dubstep and more to the city. Starting the night with the rapper Riz MC, who has gone on to become an acclaimed actor in films such as Four Lions, he built a reputation as both a fantastic DJ with a wide range of tastes, and a dedicated promoter with his finger on the pulse and a strong desire to provide Manchester with an incredible club featuring a mix of established names and up and coming talent. He has played with many of drum and bass and dubstep’s top DJs at clubs across the country, as well as dates in Brazil, festivals such as Kendall Calling, Outlook and Soundwave in Croatia. His production with Fantastic Mr. Fox on Untold’s Hemlock records was picked up by many DJs such as Jamie XX, who featured it on his mini mix for Annie Mac.
