Worldwide legend Sasha returns to WHP2010 with the club debut of his stunning new V_rtek show, an intense and groundbreaking mix of visuals accompanying his headline set. The V_rtek show has been meticulously created by Sasha over the past 8 months alongside visual artists Picnic Electronic and Immersive, comprising of huge LED displays synchronising with every sonic detail of his set, and promises to be a truly unique experience. He is joined by the one of the UK’s most talented and thrilling DJs, James Zabiela, who Sasha himself signed to his Excession agency after hearing him play. Known for his exceptional technical ability and forward thinking use of DJ technology, his set promises to be one of the many highlights of the night. Liverpool’s Yousef will also be playing, showing why he has been such a successful and hugely popular at Circus and Space in Ibiza this season, as well as one of the favourite producers of the likes of Sven Väth and Steve Lawler.

Even though their spiritual home of The End sadly closed last year, Layo and Bushwacka! are bringing the infectious spirit and no holds barred attitude of their legendary All Night Long nights to the Warehouse Project for a one off celebration, performing an epic set all night in the second room. Known for their eclectic sets comprising of house, techno, breaks and whatever else they wanted, their reputation as one of the entertaining DJ duos in the world is well deserved.

  • Few DJs have enjoyed a career as long and fruitful as Alexander Coe, better known to millions as Sasha.  Along with his DJ partner John Digweed, he has been at the pinnacle of the UK dance scene for almost two decades, being named in the top ten DJs in the world by DJ magazine every year since 1997, and winning in 2000. Becoming enamoured with dance music at the early days at the Hacienda, a venue which he soon began to DJ at under the guidance of Jon DaSilva.  His reputation quickly grew, and by 1990 he was the first ever cover star of Mixmag under the title Sasha Mania. Beginning to produce his own music in the 90’s, be became a resident for Renaissance’s events around the world. From 1993 onwards he began to perform more and more as a duo with fellow resident and John Digweed.  The pair toured to huge crowds for years, and became residents at New York’s legendary Twilo, later touring the states on several huge tours across over 30 cities.

    His remixes for the likes of Madonna and Gus Gus saw him increasingly appreciated as a producer as well as a DJ, as did the massive success of his Xpander EP.  He has collaborated in the studio with the likes of BT, Darren Emerson and James Zabiela, who he took under his wing as an apprentice after recognising his potential. As well as numerous mix CDs for the likes of Renaissance and Global Underground, and acclaimed album Airdrawndagger, he was nominated for a Grammy for his remix of Felix Da Housecat’s Watching Cars Go By. He continues to DJ across the globe to crowds numbering in the tens of thousands, widely considered one of the best DJs alive for his impeccable selection, technical ability and his groundbreaking use of DJ technology such as Ableton live.

     
• James Zabiela

  • Born in Southampton, James Zabiela has gained a reputation as one of the most technically groundbreaking DJs in the UK, a thrilling performer who has earned his stripes honing his craft across the world. Getting into dance music at an early age through his father who worked in a record shop, he began DJing at 15, winning a competition in Muzik Magazine for best bedroom DJ. Residencies around the UK followed, and more and more people started to take note of his unique style, combining techno, progressive and deep house and breakbeat, looping, scratching and cutting tracks beyond recognition. Personally invited by John Digweed to play at Bedrock, he was later signed by his hero Sasha to his Excession agency after the legendary DJ heard one of his mixtapes. His residencies over the past decade at  Space, Renaissance and more recently Matter have seen him become famous for his sets, often using three or more CDJS and numerous FX units, pushing far beyond the normal bounds of what most DJs are able to do. As well as mixes for Renaissance and an Essential Mix on Radio 1, he has also recently embarked on a fruitful collaboration with Nick Fanciulli entitled one+one, producing tracks, touring together and releasing two acclaimed mixes. His own productions have been released on labels such as Bedrock, Renaissance and Ministry of Sound, and he performs around the world at the most celebrated clubs and dance festivals.
     
• Yousef

  • Liverpool’s Yousef has spent the past decade rising head and shoulders above his peers, becoming one of the most acclaimed and accomplished young DJs and producers in the UK. The creator and head resident of  Liverpool’s infamous and long running Circus night, which launched its own record label in 2008, he has bought the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter, Sasha, Laurent Garnier and many others to the city. Beginning to make his own tracks at the turn of the millennium, he has steadily made a name for himself as one of the top producers in the UK, with tracks personally being signed by the likes of Carl Cox and Sven Vath, and collaborations with Sasha on new material forthcoming this year. His recent tracks on Circus and Renaissance have become firm favourites amongst the likes of Luciano, Josh Wink, Steve Lawler, Pete Tong and Nick Curly. He is a longtime resident at Space in Ibiza, kicking the season off this year as part of Carl Cox’s longstanding residency at the legendary club. Last year he broadcast a live Essential Mix for Radio 1 from Creamfields festival, featuring many of his own upfront productions such as Africa and his collaboration with Derrick Carter, Legacy.
     
• Layo and Bushwacka!

  • Two legends of the British dance scene, Layo and Bushwacka! Are both veterans of the rave scene of the late 80s and early 90s. Bushwacka used to play with the Rat Pack in warehouse parties around the country, and through a mutual friend, Mr C., he met Layo who was also playing at illegal raves and huge squat parties. The pair, along with Mr C., set up the hugely influential London club The End, which for thirteen years ran as one of the top venues in the country until its closure last year. Their All Night Long residency at the venue became known as one of the most exciting, eclectic and groundbreaking nights in the country, the pair performing epic sets taking in house, techno, breakbeat and even old disco, funk and electro.

    They began producing tracks together in 1999, releasing on The End’s record label, their tracks a slick fusion of tech house and breakbeat. After their debut album Low Life they signed with XL, releasing the smash hit Love Story, a precursor to their acclaimed Night Works album. They released their third album Feels Closer in 2006 on their own Olmeto label, working with the vocalists such as Green Velvet. They have played together as a duo at massive clubs and festivals across the world, with a hugely successful season’s residency at Space this year, also recently teaming up with Laurent Garnier for their own Shake It! parties.

     
• Greg Lord

  • WHP resident Greg has also previously held residencies at Sankeys and the former Paradise Factory, and over the last decade has played alongside artists as diverse as Dave Clarke, Francois K, Jeff Mills, Basement Jaxx, Carl Craig, Giles Peterson, Steve Lawler and Jamie Jones amongst many others . His residencies have enabled him to master a wide range of styles, ranging from soulful and jazzy deep house all the way to uncompromising techno. Recently Greg has played high profile gigs outside of Manchester at the likes of London’s Matter and a set at V Festival.
